More than 100 students from HRUC, connected through our five state-of-the-art immersive rooms, attended the event, which featured a panel discussion from Amazon and interactive activities designed to highlight opportunities for women in technology.
Building confidence in technical environments
Opening the session, Robyn Green – Assistant Principle at Uxbridge College welcomed students and introduced the panel of Amazon female professionals, including Monika Baricz, Julia Newman, Sevda Bloom and Vlada Petrova.
The panel spoke openly about their career paths, the challenges they have faced, and the opportunities that exist for women pursuing careers in technology. Students were encouraged to ask questions, leading to a lively Q&A session that explored topics such as navigating male-dominated industries, building confidence in technical environments, and overcoming fears that can arise when entering new career paths.
Bringing STEM concepts to life
Alongside the panel discussion, students also took part in interactive activities led by the Amazon team. Working in groups, they built and tested LEGO prototypes to learn the fundamentals of engineering and mechanics before racing their designs against one another in a fun and competitive challenge. The activity brought practical STEM concepts to life while encouraging creativity, collaboration and problem-solving.
The event highlighted the importance of visible role models in the technology sector and provided students with valuable insight into how their own skills, curiosity and ambition could translate into exciting careers.
By connecting students with industry professionals, our West London Institute of Technology continues to support young people in exploring pathways into technology and innovation.
