West London IoT has the best lecturers around, who have the industry knowledge and experience to ensure you gain the skills needed by employers. Lecturers will be teaching full-time and part-time HNC and HND courses in construction that are designed in partnership with our employer partners and Brunel University London.
We have interviewed construction lecturer Justin Aroyean, so you can find out a bit more about who may be teaching you.
How long have you been teaching?
"I’ve been teaching for a year now."
What courses do you teach?
"I teach Building Services Engineering, CBE (Construction & the Built Environment) and EPR (Employability & Progression Review)."
What is your previous industry experience?
"After completing my Construction Engineering Management, I worked for BAM Nuttall as an innovation engineering looking for smart & immersive technologies we could implement on our sites to save on time and overheads. My passion in BIM led me to become an BIM Specialist for IBI group. My role was similar to my role as an innovation engineer but I was looking for technology we could adapt into our existing BIM infrastructure."
What do you enjoy about teaching your courses?
"I enjoy researching on new technology and I have always enjoyed construction. Therefore being able to research the two is GREAT! I enjoy learning just as much as I enjoy teaching - being a lecturer in this department allows me to do both."

What piece of advice do you have for students looking to get into a career in construction?
"Construction and Civil Engineering requires problem solving, creativity and resilience. This definitely will not be easy, but It will be fun."
What projects can the students get stuck into?
"We will be designing projects from scratch so you will be using AutoCAD, Revit & Sketch Up. We will also be conducting surveys on sites, so we will be using new technology and measuring tools."
What skills and experience do you expect students to have once they finish your course?
"With the skills you acquire from this course - you can build anything! You just need to put your mind to it."
