5 reasons why the Government introduced West London Institute of Technology
Posted on 11th September 2020 at 10:10
West London IoT was created for those who are interested in a career in engineering, digital or construction.
So if you see yourself becoming a technical specialist, West London IoT will be the place for you.

This is a new institution, introduced in 2019 and there are only 12 Institutes of Technology in the country.
To give you an idea of why the Government has set up Institutes of Technology (IoTs), here are 5 reasons:
Skill Gaps in STEM Sector
The amount of students studying higher technical education at Level 4 (HNC) & 5 (HND) in England has been falling, leading to skill gaps in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) sector. To create a more productive and prosperous country, West London IoT has been introduced to tackle these skill gaps.
Meet Employer Skill Needs
West London IoT aims to meet employer needs in terms of providing learners with the technical skills employers demand. To do this, West London IoT has anchor partners (Brunel University London, West London Business, Heathrow Airport and Fujitsu) who help design the curriculum, as well as providing work experience.
Student and Employer Confidence
To ensure learners and employers have the confidence in high quality courses that provide the skills they need to succeed.

Upskill and Retrain
To provide the opportunity for adults to up skill and retrain, and the opportunity for young people to choose high quality, prestigious higher technical education.
Tailored to Industry Requirements
Focusing on the skills and needs tailored to different industries. West London IoT will be focusing on the skill requirements needed in the engineering, digital and construction industries.
We hope you now have more of an understanding of why Institutes of Technology were introduced.
