West London IoT maximises opportunities for both students and employers.

Our anchor partners, Brunel University of London, Heathrow Airport and West London Business, contribute to the delivery of high-quality programmes designed to equip students with the technical expertise sought by employers.

As a result, students will have better recruitment opportunities, greater earning potential and become more employable.

West London IoT is based thoughout Harrow, Richmond and Uxbridge Colleges (HRUC).

Our courses are available at campuses in Hayes, Harrow on the Hill, Uxbridge and Richmond upon Thames. Please refer to the course information links to confirm the venue for each course. 

The IoT’s flagship building, located on the Uxbridge Campus, has been purpose-built with state-of-the-art facilities and equipment to support our engineering, construction and digital programmes.

Anyone can apply. Whether you’re fresh out of school, looking for your next job role, a new career or to upskill in your current position - our courses are open to everyone. As long as you have the relevant entry requirements, you’re good to go.

All of West London IoT full-time courses and some of our part-time courses require an interview. This is an opportunity for you to have a discussion with a member of staff who is able to guide and support your transition to college, so please don't be nervous.

West London IoT encourages socialising and making friends with like-minded people. Students can take part in the student union, clubs and societies, as well as other facilities on offer.

Firstly, studying at West London IoT is more affordable and you will receive greater support with smaller classes.

You have the opportunity to work with employers and gain a unique technical qualification recognised and demanded by employers in the STEM industry. You can build contacts and connections with employers you have worked with during your IoT course, providing you with recruitment opportunities. You can still progress to University after your Level 5 HND course, as our Anchor Partner Brunel University of London offers a top up Level 6 degree.

HNC stands for Higher National Certificate and is a Level 4 vocational qualification awarded by Pearson in England. An HNC is the equivalent to one year of university and would take one-year to complete full - time and two years to complete part-time.

This practical based course provides students with the skills and knowledge needed to either progress onto HND (Level 5) or go straight into employment. HNCs are tailored towards certain job roles or career paths.

A Higher National Diploma (HND) is a Level 5 vocational qualification that is the equivalent of the second year at university. The HND delves deeper into the chosen pathway, giving you the practical skills needed to step into a job.

Once you complete the HND, you can progress onto the final year (Level 6 Bachelor’s degree) at university or straight into employment. The HND will take one year to complete full-time, and two years part-time.

Pearson (UK's largest awarding body) work with industry, employers and professional bodies to ensure that higher nationals are recognised by industry and universities.

If you plan to progress to university, you can top-up your HNs to over 1500 degrees, and this is constantly increasing. You can visit UCAS.com to view the top-up degrees.

WLIoT works with anchor partners including Heathrow Airport, West London Business and Brunel University of London, as well as other industry employers to ensure students gain the skills required in industry through completion of HNC and HND qualifications. During your qualification, you will get the opportunity to:

HNCs and HNDs are a popular choice amongst adult learners whether they are retraining or upskilling in their current role. To suit different schedules and commitments, there is a part-time option which takes two years as opposed to one year full-time.

Many students study their higher education whilst working in a full-time job.

You will be assessed through assignments, projects and practical tasks throughout the course, and the grades in each unit will be shown as a pass, merit (higher than a pass) or distinction (highest possible grade).

If you fail a unit or project, you will not achieve your HNC or HND qualification. You will have the opportunity to re-sit the unit.

If you have a good idea of what career you want to do, prefer practical learning and are looking for a more cost-effective way of achieving your higher education, HNCs and HNDs could be right for you.
